For more information regarding the conditions/diseases that are under investigation please review the Society's breed health strategy here.

Health Sub-Committee

The Health Sub-Committee was formed to monitor the health status of the Flatcoated Retriever, offer advice and general support to members and non-members in times of crisis and at all times to maintain strict confidentiality. However, the Society asks everyone to appreciate that although any advice is given in good faith, neither they nor the Representative concerned can be held legally responsible.

The Brenda Phillips Memorial Health Fund

This fund was set up in 2007 and is to be kept and maintained within the Flatcoated Retriever Society. It is to be used to support health initiatives that relate to the breed and contribute to the funding of research into diseases/conditions that affect the Flatcoated Retriever. Details of the fund’s accounts are made available within the Society’s annual accounts and published in the Yearbook.

We are extremely grateful to everyone who has organised fund-raising initiatives and for the donations that have been made to the health fund over the years. These include donations from litter recordings, sale of the Society calendar, donations from the patellar screening scheme carried out by Jane Alexander MRCVS at the Championship show, donations from raffles and more recently half of the proceeds of the sale of the extremely popular book, The Flatcoated Retriever in the Millenium co-authored by Val Jones and Brenda Hutchison.

Anyone wishing to donate to the Brenda Phillips Memorial Health Fund can do so by contacting the Society’s Hon. Treasurer Heather Harley, contact details can be found here:
